Enrique Perezalba Red was born in Toreno, Spain. He graduated with an MA from the Royal College of Art in London in 2013.
Since then, his practice has moved fluidly between contemporary ceramics and sculpture.

Originally trained as a dancer at the Rambert School in London and later earning an MA in European Scenography from Central Saint Martins, Perezalba Red is a uniquely interdisciplinary artist. His work draws on a rich blend of influences from movement, performance, design, and visual art.

His past as a dancer frequently surfaces in his work through references to the body, movement, and gesture. Likewise, his background in scenography and his experience as an art director in the fashion, film, and advertising industries also inform his artistic language.

A fascination with aesthetics, iconography, and the sacred has been a constant presence in Enrique’s work. Growing up in a Catholic country left a lasting impression, which later deepened through his travels and frequent visits to museums around the world.

“My ideas and work often appear unconsciously—like visions that come from nowhere at the most unexpected times. They settle into my mind and remain there, quietly waiting to take shape in my work. It’s rare for a vision to be forgotten, no matter how much time passes, unless it’s brought into being.”

His experimentation with materials ranges from sprayed ceramics to traditional white porcelain. For Enrique, the choice of medium is always deliberate and integral to the work itself—often challenging viewers to question what they are seeing or how it connects to historical references.

He believes that traditional techniques still hold the power to tell new stories and spark new questions, offering a dialogue between the past and the present.

“We should pay more attention to the past—to really look, look again, and keep looking at what has already been done. If you train your eye this way, you’ll learn to recognize whether something truly is new, or not”. Yoshitomo Nara.
