EAST MEETS WEST
"East Meets West" delves into the intersection of two cultures through their iconic symbols. On one side, Mickey Mouse, arguably the most recognisable figure of Western pop culture, and on the other, the Imperial Guardian Lions and the bodhisattva Guanyin, revered symbols of Chinese heritage that have been carried by migrants around the world.
Mickey Mouse was created to bring joy, unity, and a sense of limitless possibility to people of all ages, becoming a universal symbol of optimism and family.
The Imperial Guardian Lions, once positioned at the gates of palaces and temples, were believed to offer protection, while Guanyin is revered for embodying compassion and mercy. Both symbols have transcended their cultural origins, now found not only in Chinese communities worldwide but also embraced by other Asian cultures.
This work reflects the blending and adaptation of cultures, symbolising the duality of our increasingly interconnected and globalised world.
